This time in tanning 101, we’re taking a look at the VersaSpa®.
The VersaSpa® is the sunless tanning option at Sun Tan City, and you don’t have to be worried about turning out like an Oompa Loompa. The Mystic Tan used extracts from carrots, and we all know how orange carrots are. The VersaSpa® uses beet extract in the formula, and natural tanning is more of a golden tan with red underlay (kind of like you’re blushing). So this state-of-the-art formula will give you great results.
If you’re going to a wedding, Halloween or other special event, the VersaSpa® is the quick and easy way to go. There is an instructional video playing in our lobby, so take a minute to watch it because there are a couple of different poses you’ll need to do to make sure there are no funky stripes. Think of the song “Walk Like an Egyptian” and the dances in that music video.
And don’t worry, your tanning consultant will walk you through all of this so you don’t have to memorize this blog!
You’ll get a hair cap, and you want to cover your hair to just above your hairline. Next, there is barrier cream in a dispenser by the door. Apply this liberally to your hands, fingers, and cuticles. And also to your feet, toes and don’t forget the sides of your feet too. The barrier cream keeps the VersaSpa® solution from completely soaking into these areas of your skin because they tend to soak up a bit more solution than the rest of your body.
Just be careful once you have the barrier cream on your feet so you don’t slip on the tile! I always stand on the little mat while I’m applying the cream to my feet.
Next up is the VersaSpa® booth. It looks kind of like a pretty shower. I’m not joking. So step in and face the nozzle. And don’t worry, it’s not a blast of solution like the Friends episode where Ross gets two coats on one side. There is a voice that tells you what to do so there is no confusion.
The nozzle always does two passes during each pose to make sure it doesn’t miss any area of your body. So it goes top-to-bottom, then bottom-to-top on each pose. And you can see when the nozzle is about to spray you so you won’t be startled. Although, the solution is a bit cold so be prepared for that.
So you’ll do your front, right side, left side, and back. Then an air dryer will kick on to dry you off so you don’t have to use a towel to dry off. Like little perk, isn’t it?
And voila, you’re done! Depending on whether or not you got the clear or tinted formula is whether or not your color will be immediate. With the clear formula, it takes about 4-6 hours for the tan to set in, so it will be gradual. If you need immediate results, go with the tint.
