Do I Really Need to Use a Facial Lotion?

by Victoria - 15. September, 2011 09:39

Plain and simple, yes. The skin on your face is the most sensitive skin on your body, which means it will have the most dramatic reaction to your environment. This is why it’s important to pamper your face with facial lotion when you’re tanning in a tanning bed.

Facial tanning lotion
has that extra punch of nutrients that will replenish your skin and make it look firm and young.

When applying, you’ll want to cover all of the skin that would be exposed when you’re wearing a v-neck shirt. So your face, neck and part of your chest are covered. But before you do this, you need to remove your makeup. You’re more than welcome to use our restrooms at Sun Tan City to remove your makeup, and to reapply when you’re done tanning before you get back to your busy life.

Back-to-School Tanning Tips

by Victoria - 4. August, 2011 12:36

It’s a busy time of the year… summer is coming to an end, so you’re trying to get in as much summer fun as possible – all while getting ready for back-to-school season. Whether you are the one who is getting ready for school, or you’re getting your children ready for school, or both, don’t forget to make time for yourself.

Sometimes all you need is a little time away to relax to get back into the swing of things. And what better way to do this than to come to one of our great indoor tanning salons. If time is a factor, here are some tips on how to get in and out of a Sun Tan City location as quickly as possible, but still come out relaxed, rejuvenated, and looking good.

- A VersaSpa sunless tanning session less than a minute from start to finish to complete, and the color lasts 5 – 7 days.
- If the bed you usually go into has a wait, talk to your Tanning Consultant about doing an upgrade into a higher bed. Many times when you enroll with Sun Tan City you are given upgrade points to use at any time.
- We have restrooms in all of our tanning salons, so feel free to touch up your makeup after you tan.
- Check out our hours of operation for your salon of choice – we open pretty early and stay open pretty late – so you may find a time that works better with your already busy schedule.

Tanning Tip: Give your Tan a Boost

by Victoria - 26. May, 2011 08:34

In the Sun Tan City blog this month, we talked about switching up your tanning bed. Our next sun tanning tip is bump up your base by adding variety to your lotion.

Each indoor tanning lotion is specially formulated for a specific result. Pure lotions, bronzers, and accelerators all have a purpose. So if you switch between different brands of lotions, or even use different types of lotion, this will help deepen your tan.

For recommendations on what to try, talk to your Tanning Consultant. They will provide you with the details on what each lotion is the best for, and you will be able to smell the lotion to see if you like the scent.

And if you don’t want to make a commitment on a full bottle, you can always purchase a lotion packet to see how you like it.

Tanning Tip – Bumping up Your Base

by Victoria - 17. May, 2011 08:22

Last month, we focused on tanning tips and how to build a good base tan. And now that most of you have achieved this goal, we are going to give you tips on how to bump up your base tan.

Like with many things, your body responds best when you switch things up. When you are dieting, you get the best results when you eat different foods. And when you’re at the gym, your body likes some consistency, but at about the six week mark is when you’re supposed to change up your routine. Your body gets used to things, so this is why it’s important to change up your tanning routine a little bit.

If you have been using the same type of tanning bed to build your base and you’ve noticed you aren’t getting darker, go into a different bed. This even applies if you tan in the Instant bed all the time. Each of our beds have different levels of UV, and each bed has a specialization so to speak.

Talk to your Tanning Consultant about the best way for you to switch up your beds, and I can promise this will get you to your next level in an awesome tan.

Tanning Tips

by Victoria - 28. April, 2011 09:42

On the Sun Tan City Facebook page, there is a lot of conversation about tanning tips. Here are some of the tips our clients have given.

• If your legs aren’t as dark as the rest of your body, apply tingles only to your legs. This will give you a boost.
• If you want to get your feet darker, lay upside down in the bed so your feet are under the facial tanners.
• Need a boost in color? Switch up your tanning bed. Stand-up beds are great for this.
• Do you have raccoon eyes from your goggles? Try Wink-ease. They are UV blocking stickers you apply to your eyes, and you make them the size you want.
• Have little white moons on your backside? Try sitting on the edge of the bed the last couple of minutes of your tanning session. Or, while in the stand-up bed, lean forward the last couple of minutes.

The tips may be a bit random, but you’ll get results. What other tips do you have?

Sunless Tanning Tips

by Victoria - 19. April, 2011 09:35

To go along with this month being the National Sunless Tanning Month, we have some sunless tanning tips for you.

• Before you do the VersaSpa, exfoliate your skin, shave your legs, and don’t apply moisturizer. This will give your skin the perfect prep to absorb the solution properly.
• If you haven’t done the VersaSpa before, ask your Tanning Consultant to show you the poses. I like to pretend I’m doing the dance to Walk Like an Egyptian!
• When choosing your color, have your Tanning Consultant help you. You want to pick a color that’s going to look natural with your current tan.
• After your visit, avoid sweating, getting wet, and applying moisturizer for 4 – 6 hours while the VersaSpa is doing its thing. If you do this, it could affect your results.
• Wear dark, loose clothing when you know you’re going to do a sunless session. This will help prevent the solution from rubbing onto your clothes; and when it does it won’t be noticeable.
• Apply the barrier cream to your fingers, toes, and the back of your ankles. This will keep these drier parts of your body from absorbing more solution.
• When putting on the hair net, don’t place it on your forehead. Place it so it rests just behind your hairline.

Is Your Face Not as Tan as the Rest of Your Body?

by Victoria - 24. March, 2011 14:57

On our Facebook page, there have been a lot of our clients asking how to get their face tan. Their faces aren’t getting as dark as the rest of their bodies, and they don’t know why. It’s not uncommon for a facial lotion or makeup to have SPF in them. If yours do, your face won’t tan as much as the rest of your body if you keep it on while tanning.

For best results, wash your face before tanning. We have restrooms you are more than welcome to use before you go into your room. This will take off any makeup and moisturizer with SPF in them. Next, you will want to apply a facial tanning lotion, like Blend Premium Face. Lotions like these are specially formulated with minerals to prevent aging, tighten skin, and is just right for more sensitive skin.

And of course, you’re more than welcome to use our restrooms to reapply your makeup if you would like to do this before you leave our salons.

So if you have been having problems with your face not getting as tan, try this tip and let us know how it turns out.

Protect Your Highlights When Tanning

by Victoria - 24. February, 2011 09:44

With Spring on it’s way, it’s time to brighten up our hairstyles and color. If you get highlights done, you’ll want to protect them so the color doesn’t change when you go into the tanning bed. Like natural sunlight, your hair may change colors over time when you go to the tanning bed.

To prevent this, we recommend using a product that is like a shower cap. You just slip it over your hair before you get into the tanning bed, and it will keep your highlights looking just like they did when you walked out of the salon.

It’s cheap, easy, and keeps your hair looking great!

Get Ready for Spring

by Victoria - 15. February, 2011 09:43

It may not feel like it, but Spring is just around the corner. So this means it’s time to start building your tan if you haven’t already. Here are some tips on how to get ready for Spring.

-       Start going to the tanning salon now.

-       Unless you’re a sun goddess, it’s going to take time to build a good base tan.

-       The lower-powered tanning beds (like the Fast and Faster beds) are going to be your best friend. They provide both types of UV rays so you will not only build a base tan, but your tan will be very natural looking.

-       The only downfall with using the Fast and Faster tanning beds is, well, you won’t get results as quickly as if you tanned in a High Powered bed (like the Instant). Every few visits, do an upgrade and go into the Fastest or Instant tanning bed. This will provide you with a nice boost so you will see the results faster. If you’re anything like me, patience is not always a virtue.

-       Moisturize, moisturize, and when you think you can’t moisturize anymore… do it. When you’re tanning every couple of days, your skin is going to dry out faster than normal. Bottom line, dry skin doesn’t tan as well. So use a good quality tanning lotion before you tan, and apply a good tan extender after your shower. Moisturize from the inside by drinking water, and your skin will have a nice healthy shine.

-       Exfoliate every once in a while when you’re bathing. It will knock off the dead skin that doesn’t tan as easily anymore. And will bring the healthy, ready-to-tan skin to the top.

-       And last but not least, any time you have a question just ask! Our Tanning Consultants and our Facebook and Twitter pages are at your ready.
