Bronzer, Blush and Tingle Tanning Lotions, Oh My!

by Victoria - 21. March, 2013 08:00

We offer a wide variety of tanning lotions at Sun Tan City. Sometimes, even the most experienced tanners can be confused or baffled by all the product titles, ingredients and blends. To help you distinguish between our bronzer, blush and tingle lotions, I have listed some key facts about each formula to help you along your tanning journey.

Bronzer lotion is a very popular selection for our clients who want a deep, dark tan. The bronzer makes the skin almost instantly appear darker, which adds to the existing tan many of them already have. There are several bronzer formulations we offer at various pricing that cater to almost any budget. One important tip about using bronzers is to be careful during the application process before your visit. Bronzers are typically easy but we do sell a few that can streak your skin if you do not apply them properly. Applying in small, circular motions on your skin is what I recommend.

Blush tanning lotions are popular for clients who desire an instant flush without the warming tingle that you’d feel with a tingle lotion. Blush lotions give your skin a tone and glow that develops quickly and tends to last until you take a shower. Then the blush effect washes off while your skin is still glowing from the tan you developed during your visit.

Tingle tanning lotions are classified as tingle because of the tingling sensation your skin gets after you apply the lotion for your tanning visit. It is more intense than any other tanning lotion we carry in our salons. The lotion brings the blood to the skin surface and oxygen begins to affect the skin’s melanin. Since it is tingling your skin, the more area that it tingles, the darker you will become. This is not recommended if you have sensitive skin.

With all of our tanning products, we highly recommend that you speak with one of our expert Tanning Consultants about which product would be best for your skin type, budget and lifestyle. They will be able to assist you with the products that are available in the salon to find you the perfect match.

Winter Skin Care Tips

by Victoria - 18. December, 2012 08:00

It’s that time of year again: Winter! While we all may love a blanket of white snow once in a while (and love warming up in one of our sun beds even more), the chill of winter winds can be damaging to your skin.

At Sun Tan City, we know a thing or two about skincare and we’re here to help you keep your skin beautiful and glowing all winter long. Just take a few simple tips and tricks from your beauty experts at Sun Tan City.

First, keeping your skin soft and supple during the winter months is all about moisturizing with our tan extenders. The cold, drying air zaps moisture from your skin, leaving it screaming for a little hydration.  Lucky you; we’ve got just the answer for that! Sun Tan City’s line of Blend® products are not only perfect from reversing the drying affects of cold weather, but they smell great, too! Our Blend® Premium Face or Blend® Passion Hypoallergenic Facial lotions are gentle enough on sensitive skin while being powerful enough to reverse the affects of the winter chill. But don’t forget about the rest of your body, too. At Sun Tan City, we have plenty of moisturizing tan extenders to choose from for your whole body! And, as always, one of our qualified Tanning Consultants can help you find the perfect lotion for you.

Also, if you notice that your skin is still drying after your new moisturizing routine, you may want to invest in a humidifier. When it’s cold outside, the air in your home can even become drying to your skin. To counter the hot, dry air heating your home or office, hook up a humidifier to add moisture in the air and keep your skin soft and supple.

Have additional skincare questions? Drop by your favorite Sun Tan City and ask one of our expert Tanning Consultants for their assistance or visit our Skin Care page. Happy Moisturizing (and Tanning, of course)!

Skin-Tastic tan: Accelerators & Intensifiers

by Victoria - 28. June, 2012 12:42

Navigating through the many lotion options out there can be overwhelming. You have bronzer and tingle lotions, after-tan lotions, tan extenders, facial lotions, sunless gels, and more. Luckily, you have us to help point you in the right direction. Two of the most commonly used lotions are tanning accelerators and intensifiers. And while some people think the two serve similar purposes, they actually help you tan in different ways. We’ll explain…

Tanning accelerators are mainly used to help build your natural base tan. These lotions are packed with moisturizers and nutrients that deliver you skin the boost it needs to jumpstart the tanning process.

Even with a great starter lotion, it’s possible for your tan to plateau. That’s where a tanning intensifier can help boost your color. Intensifiers are best for regular tanners who want to achieve an even deeper tan. Tanning intensifiers kick your tan into overdrive, allowing your skin to develop the dark tan you want! Fabulous!

So next time you tan with us, ask your Tanning Consultant about different tanning lotion options and see if a tanning accelerator or intensifier is right for you. Happy Tanning!

Tanning FAQ: How Can I Prolong My Tan?

by Victoria - 29. May, 2012 08:00

Nothing can make you feel more confident and attractive than a beautiful, long-lasting tan. And at Sun Tan City, we want you to maintain your bronzed glow. All it takes is a few easy steps!

Before you head to Sun Tan City, be sure to exfoliate. During a tanning session, the light affects the top layer of skin. This top layer only lasts between six to ten days, which means that having the freshest skin possible will mean keeping your tan longer. Use a light exfoliating body wash in your morning shower, and you’ll be one step closer to a long-lasting tan.

Moisturizing before and after tanning is also a must to prolong your tan. And while moisturized skin tans better than dry skin, skip your after-shower lotion on a day you plan to tan. Chemicals in your daily moisturizers may interact with those in your tanning lotion causing and uneven tan. We don’t want to rob your skin of extra moisturizing though, so ask your tanning consultant about our line of tanning lotions designed to maximize and prolong your tan. After you tan, apply an after-tan lotion or tan extender. Keeping your freshly tanned skin moisturized is key to keeping your new tan as long as possible. And at Sun Tan City, we have plenty of great tan extenders to choose from.

If you have more questions on how to keep your tan around long after visiting Sun Tan City, see one of our Tanning Consultants or check our FAQ section. Happy tanning!

Top New FAQs from Sun Tan City – Is the Use of SPF Lotion Recommended?

by Victoria - 31. January, 2012 08:00

As we mentioned earlier this month, we will be bringing you new frequently asked tanning questions each month.

So without further a due, the second question for January – Is the use SPF lotion recommended?

Not necessarily. SPF tanning lotions are engineered to protect you from prolonged exposure to UV rays. At Sun Tan City, your exposure in our state-of-the-art tanning beds is controlled and minimal. Instead of SPF lotions, we recommend the use of our indoor tanning-specific lotions that promote skin moisture and help to prolong the life of your tan.

Remember, each month we’re looking to answer questions from our tanning clients just like you. If you have a specific question you’d like to have us answer publicly, please feel free respond to any of our blog posts or write your question to us on Facebook. That way, we can share the questions and our knowledge with others tanning connoisseurs just like you! And as always, feel free to talk to your local tanning consultant directly. We’re always available to help any of our clients in need!

How to Accelerate your Tan with Tanning Accelerators

by Victoria - 18. January, 2011 16:41

One step beginning tanners often miss is the importance of indoor tanning lotion. There are many differences in the lotions sold at our salons, but this blog will focus on Tanning Accelerators.

The bottom line of tanning is moisturized skin tans easier than dry skin. But moisturized skin also stays tan longer. So while there is a bit more of an investment to purchase a lotion, it is in fact an investment. Plus, your skin just feels amazing.

There are several different types of accelerators so you will be able to find one that you love. Bronzers have a slight tint of color in the lotion so you will receive a bit of color from the lotion. And Tingle lotions are great for getting past a tanning plateau by causing your skin to warm, which in turn allows your skin to receive more color.

If you would like to try a new tanning accelerator, many of them are available in sample lotion packets for you to purchase. It’s a great way to give the lotion a try without buying a whole bottle.

Got Color? Keep it with Tanning Lotion!

by Victoria - 23. March, 2010 14:23

Attention tan fanatics! You know the importance of moisture to healthy skin, but did you also know that using a specially formulated lotion just for sun tanning can help you get more color and keep your color longer? It’s true.

Moisturized skin not only holds color longer, but also actually helps you tan faster. Because sun tanning is a totally natural process of your skin reacting to UV rays, the healthier your skin is, the more quickly and evenly it will respond to UV light. And because your tan fades naturally, keeping your skin moisturized helps keep your color radiant even longer.

As an extra bonus, indoor sun tanning lotions contain natural tan-enhancing ingredients, which encourage your skin to tan and help deepen your natural colors. Apply lotion daily, especially when you’re visiting Sun Tan City for a sun tanning session, and be amazed by how much your lotion helps your results really shine!

Tanning Lotions: Do They Expire?

by Victoria - 22. February, 2010 11:18

Lotions and sun tanning products don’t always come with expiration dates. This makes some people think that because they aren’t perishable, they don’t expire—or don’t do so for a long time. You may never have thought about it, but to keep your tan looking its best, you should consider how long you’ve had your lotion.

The truth is, lotions and tanning products DO expire, but it takes a while for them to do so. While they won’t go bad the same way other perishable items do, they will certainly lose their effectiveness, which can have negative effects on your sun tanning cycle.

In fact, most brands of tanning lotions sold at Sun Tan City will remain fully effective on the shelf for up to a year. If you can’t remember the last time you restocked your sun tanning lotion supply, chances are that you aren’t getting the products’ full effect!

We have sun tanning lotion specials every month, so consider trying something new!
