Sunless Tanning Tip: Preparing for Your Sunless Tan

by Victoria - 15. May, 2012 08:00

Do you want a glowing, confidence-boosting tan without the UV rays? You’re only minutes away from looking and feeling amazing with the VersaSpa Sunless Tanning system at Sun Tan City. But before you step into the booth, make sure you are ready for your session with these four easy steps.

Tan at the right time. You need to avoid water for at least 4-8 hours after you tan. If you can’t avoid splishing, splashing (or sweating) for that time, it’s probably not the best time to tan.

Exfoliate before your session to remove dead, dry skin cells. This allows the bronzing spray to absorb into fresh, clean skin. Your tan will not only be more even, but will last longer as well. We suggest using a light exfoliating and moisturizing body scrub in your morning shower. Try to avoid bar soaps or in-shower moisturizers, which could interfere with the bronzing process and bring about that dreaded “orange” color.

Skip the lotion and makeup. While moisturizing your skin in the days following your tanning session can make it last longer, applying moisturizers and lotions can interfere with the bronzing spray absorbing into your skin. If you do wear makeup the day of your tan, remove it before entering the VersaSpa to get the most even tan on your face. Also, use deodorant sparingly. Believe it or not, it could interact with the spray and turn your armpits a not-so-fab shade of green.

Wear lose-fitting, dark clothing to your session. Also, be sure to remove all jewelry and leave it off until your tan is set. This will prevent your clothes and jewelry from rubbing against your skin and smudging your tan or your clothing being stained by the tanning spray.

That’s it – you are ready to tan! If it’s your first time trying sunless Sunday through Wednesday, it’s free! And, if you’ve already tried (and loved) sunless, we have something for you, too! Check Sun Tan City’s website for a coupon offering TWO sunless visits for only $20. These coupons are limited for one-time use and can’t be shared or transferred. And, as always, happy (Sunless) tanning!

New Tanning FAQ: What to Wear When Tanning

by Victoria - 29. March, 2012 08:00

Each month we’ll bring you new Frequently Asked Questions that our Sun Tan City Tanning Experts receive from tanning clients just like you. If you have a specific question you’d like to have us answer publically, please feel free respond to any of our blog posts or write your question to us on Facebook. That way, we can share the questions and our knowledge with others tanning connoisseurs just like you!

What to wear when tanning?

To each their own, we say! Everyone enjoys sun tanning in different ways and it depends on the type of tanning coverage you prefer. There is no right or wrong way to dress during your tanning session.

Many of those who enjoy private indoor tanning do so in the nude, because it provides the most even coverage. However, because tender areas of your body are exposed during your sessions that are not accustomed to being exposed to sunlight, you will want to introduce your body to nude UV exposure at a relaxed pace.

For those with concerns about sanitation or modesty, you are also welcome to tan wearing swimwear of any coverage level, or any other tan-through fabric item of clothing.

Keep in mind, your room at Sun Tan City is entirely private, and employees will not interrupt you during your tanning session. You are free to wear whatever you like to make the most of your tanning experience.

Until next time, feel free to send us a note on Facebook or talk to your local tanning consultant directly. We’re always available to help a client in need!

New FAQ from Sun Tan City – Is Protective Eyewear Recommended?

by Victoria - 21. February, 2012 08:00

Each month we’ll bring you new Frequently Asked Questions that our Sun Tan City Tanning Experts receive from clients just like you. If you have a specific question you’d like to have us answer publicly, please feel free respond to any of our blog posts or write your question to us on Facebook. That way, we can share the questions and our knowledge with others tanning connoisseurs just like you!

Is protective eyewear recommended during tanning sessions?
It’s not recommended – it’s demanded! You must wear goggles that protect against 99% of UVA rays and 99.9% of UVB rays…and it’s a super smart idea. This specially formulated lens protects your sensitive eye tissue from exposure. Too much exposure could lead to permanent damage to your vision. Serious consequences include cornea burns or degeneration, loss of color vision, loss of vision at night, or even cataracts.

So, whether you purchase a pair for multiple use, or just use the temps we provide on-site, goggles should always be in your tanning repertoire.

Until next time, feel free to send us a note on Facebook or talk to your local tanning consultant directly. We’re always available to help a client in need!

Tanning Consultant Tips: How to Tan

by Victoria - 16. February, 2012 08:00

We all tan differently, so knowing your skin type and speaking with a tanning expert at Sun Tan City is always advised. We pride ourselves on being experts in the tanning industry, and are here to share our experience to help make the most of your experience.

At Sun Tan City, you can get a great tan any time of year, so you need to know how to tan in order to maximize your experience! Here are some thought-starters…

- Pick the appropriate apparel to wear during your visit. If you have a lot of halter-tops or strapless tops, then you want to avoid straps in the wrong spots.

- Wear approved protective eye wear during every visit. State and federal regulations require that every time you tan, you wear eye wear that protects against 99% of UVA rays and 99.9% of UVB rays. We offer temporary and multi-use goggles at every Sun Tan City location.

- Tan in a bed that is right for you! Any of our tanning consultants can gauge your skin type and recommend a length of tanning session and appropriate tanning bed that will be the best choice for you.

- Use approved lotions for tanning. Outdoor tanning lotions are not OK in the beds, so ask one of our expertly trained tanning consultants to guide you through our products and explain how they can help your tanning experience.

And lastly, ask questions! We are always here to help and guide you through the process. Tanning is our passion and we love to talk about it!!

Top New FAQs from Sun Tan City – Is the Use of SPF Lotion Recommended?

by Victoria - 31. January, 2012 08:00

As we mentioned earlier this month, we will be bringing you new frequently asked tanning questions each month.

So without further a due, the second question for January – Is the use SPF lotion recommended?

Not necessarily. SPF tanning lotions are engineered to protect you from prolonged exposure to UV rays. At Sun Tan City, your exposure in our state-of-the-art tanning beds is controlled and minimal. Instead of SPF lotions, we recommend the use of our indoor tanning-specific lotions that promote skin moisture and help to prolong the life of your tan.

Remember, each month we’re looking to answer questions from our tanning clients just like you. If you have a specific question you’d like to have us answer publicly, please feel free respond to any of our blog posts or write your question to us on Facebook. That way, we can share the questions and our knowledge with others tanning connoisseurs just like you! And as always, feel free to talk to your local tanning consultant directly. Tanning Salon Consultant Tips – Skin Care

by Victoria - 17. January, 2012 08:00

We tan to look and feel our best, so why wouldn’t you go the extra mile to lengthen the life of your tan?! Here are some easy skin care tips that you can incorporate into your daily regime to help extend the life of your tan and that healthy, natural glow.

Moisturize! The process of tanning reduces the natural moisture levels in your skin, so using sun tan lotions before and after tanning is paramount. Sun Tan City is an exclusive carrier of the innovative Blend skin care line. Just ask your local Tanning Consultant to see which product is best for your skin type and the level of tanning you are doing.

Invest in a good face lotion, and use it! Your facial skin is the most sensitive and prone to wrinkles, blemishes and dryness. By keeping your face moisturized and clean of dirt and residue during the tanning process, you can help guarantee a healthy facial glow.

Drink plenty of fluids! Moisturizing your skin from the inside is equally as important as from the outside. The average recommended daily fluid intake is about 1.9 liters, which is roughly eight 8-ounce glasses. It’s a simple rule to remember – “8 x 8.” Just keep in mind water is best, but all fluids count towards the 1.9 liter goal.

Consider Sunless tanning! The VersaSpa and Mystic systems are the most sophisticated sunless tanning booths on the market, and at Sun Tan City you have cost effective access! For the rest of January, you can benefit from our Double Dip sunless tanning special. One UV tanning session and one sunless tanning session for only $49!

If you still have questions, our expert tanning consultants are always available for you at any of our tanning salon locations. Or, please feel free to reach out to us on Facebook and Twitter – we’re always available to chat up our favorite topic…tanning!

Tan Extenders Prolong Your Tan

by Victoria - 26. July, 2011 14:25

Earlier this month we talked about Bronzer and Tingle Lotions, and what they are good for. But it’s also important for you to use a Tan Extender lotion after you shower. Tan Extenders are specially formulated to replenish nutrients that may have been lost during the tanning process.

Not only do they make your skin soft and silky, but the moisture helps your tan last longer.

At Sun Tan City, we have plenty of Tan Extenders to choose from, so just ask your Tanning Consultant about them the next time you’re n one of our tanning salons and they will help you choose the perfect one.

Tanning Tips

by Victoria - 28. April, 2011 09:42

On the Sun Tan City Facebook page, there is a lot of conversation about tanning tips. Here are some of the tips our clients have given.

• If your legs aren’t as dark as the rest of your body, apply tingles only to your legs. This will give you a boost.
• If you want to get your feet darker, lay upside down in the bed so your feet are under the facial tanners.
• Need a boost in color? Switch up your tanning bed. Stand-up beds are great for this.
• Do you have raccoon eyes from your goggles? Try Wink-ease. They are UV blocking stickers you apply to your eyes, and you make them the size you want.
• Have little white moons on your backside? Try sitting on the edge of the bed the last couple of minutes of your tanning session. Or, while in the stand-up bed, lean forward the last couple of minutes.

The tips may be a bit random, but you’ll get results. What other tips do you have?
