Rick Kueber, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Rick is a naturally gifted entrepreneur whose ambition has led him to multiple business achievements. Before co-launching Sun Tan City, one of the fastest growing chains in the sun tanning industry, Rick spent seven years operating a successful 13-unit, independent video rental chain. Despite facing stiff competition from national retailers, Rick was able to build a thriving chain in the video industry. In 2002, Rick sold his business to Movie Gallery, the second largest North American video retailer.

Along with his brother David, Rick opened the doors to the first Sun Tan City in January 1999 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Today, Sun Tan City has over 175 locations nationally, more than 1,000 employees, annual revenues of more than $30 million, and approximately 3 million store visits each year.

Rick currently is serving on the Indoor Tanning Association's board of directors. He is also a member of Young Presidents' Organization (YPO), a worldwide organization of elite business leaders. In June 2010, Rick received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2010 Award in the retail category in South Central Ohio & Kentucky. Rick attended Marquette University from 1988 to 1991. Rick and his wife, Allison, have three children.

David Kueber, Co-Founder and Chairman

David Kueber, not unlike his brother Rick, is a business-savvy entrepreneur with numerous successes under his belt. David co-founded Sun Tan City in 1999, developing and growing the concept until his brother Rick joined the company full time in 2002. Prior to founding Sun Tan City, David founded and developed a successful independent chain of video stores, selling them in 1995.

David graduated from the George Washington University in 1992, with a bachelor’s degree in urban affairs. He also earned his juris doctor degree from the University of Louisville and is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association. He resides in Louisville, Kentucky with his three children.

At Sun Tan City, David is primarily responsible for guiding overall real estate, finance, and strategic planning functions.

Steve Greenlaw, Chief Operating Officer

Steve joined Sun Tan City in February of 2006 after spending ten years with the country’s second largest video specialty retailer, Movie Gallery. There, under the title Zone Vice President, he was responsible for operations in 550 stores in 11 states.

In addition to his significant multiunit operating experience, Steve has extensive experience with growth and scale, as Movie Gallery grew from 800 locations to 4,500 locations through both acquisitions and new store openings during his tenure there. Steve is currently responsible for operations, training, store development, loss prevention, and maintenance.

Steve has an associate's degree in business administration from Kennebec College.

Jeff Cheatham, Vice-President Finance

When it comes to finance, Jeff comes from an extensive background of both classroom education and business application. He started his career with an associate’s degree in industrial relations and went on to earn a BSBA in finance and accounting from the University of Louisville. Jeff spent nine years with Louisville’s number one local television station, WHAS-TV, preparing company and departmental financial statements, sales projection reports, property and sales tax returns, enterprise zone returns, and audit reports.

Previously, Jeff was a controller for Roadrunner Video Group, where he held numerous financial responsibilities. Jeff helped prepare the filing of the 8K’s, 10K’s, and 10Q’s with the Securities and Exchange Commission, forecasted sales, managed weekly cash flow budgets, managed audits, and supervised the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll departments.

Jeff joined Sun Tan City in February 2007, where he has continued to thrive on strong attention to detail that has made him such a successful financial authority. Jeff has delivered an efficient, strategic approach to the Sun Tan City CFO role and continues to do so each day.

Jeff Forrest, Executive Vice President - Corporate Support & Franchise Operations

Jeff Forrest first showcased his hard work and integrity to co-founders Rick and David while holding various managerial responsibilities at Rick’s regional chain of video specialty stores. He joined Sun Tan City in August 2002, at which time the chain operated only five locations. Jeff administered all aspects of day-to-day operations, including training, store openings, and maintenance. Under his supervision, Sun Tan City grew to 45 stores by the spring of 2007.

Jeff is currently responsible for corporate communication, client services, and information systems for Sun Tan City. He serves as the main point of contact between field operations and Sun Tan City’s Support Center departments.

Jeff has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Louisville.

John Piwetz, Chief Financial Officer

A strategy and business development mastermind, John has repeatedly proven his abilities to analyze investments and nurture growth for retail chains. Prior to joining the Sun Tan City team, John held the position of VP of Investment Analysis & Acquisitions with Movie Gallery and was integrally involved in all aspects of the company’s growth, including the opening of over 1,000 new store locations. John also demonstrated how analytics could be integrated with field operations when he launched a dedicated Operations Analysis division to the company to administer in-store pricing, budgeting, marketing, and labor.

John joined Sun Tan City in January of 2009 to bring his retail planning and analysis skills to the table and fine-tune them specifically for the tanning industry.

John has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Auburn University.

Talbott Sumners, Chief Information Officer

With 16 years of experience in Information Technology, Talbott Sumners joined the Sun Tan City team in June 2010. Starting early in his career, he has been instrumental in positioning technology to support the growth and expansion of companies large and small. He has enjoyed working with high growth companies such as Sun Tan City. These environments provide constant challenge, and allow him continuous opportunities to help bridge the gap between technology and business needs.

At Sun Tan City Talbott is responsible for the operations and strategic vision of the Information Systems Department. He continues to focus on aligning technology with the business processes that are needed to support the growth of Sun Tan City.

Ken Motzenbecker, Senior Vice President - Support Services

Ken Motzenbecker joined Sun Tan City in September of 2009 after spending nearly thirteen years with video and game specialty retailer Movie Gallery. Movie Gallery is the second largest video specialty retailer in North America operating thousands of stores under the Movie Gallery, Hollywood Video and Game Crazy brands.

Ken began with Movie Gallery as Regional Director of Operations with oversight responsibility for approximately 100 stores in Alabama, Georgia and Florida. Ken progressed from the RDO position to Divisional Vice President, Vice President Support Operations and later to Senior Vice President Support Operations. During that time Ken was integrally involved in all Operational aspects of Movie Gallery's growth, including the opening of over 2,000 new and/or acquired store locations. Ken served as the chief liaison between the Store Support Center and the field with primary responsibility for all Field Communications and Customer Service as well as oversight responsibility for Field Training, Field Recruiting and Facility Maintenance.

Angela Rieger, Director of Marketing

Before becoming a part of the Sun Tan City success story in February 2008, Angela already had an impressive résumé to hang her hat on. She spent nine years developing and facilitating in-house marketing departments for two regional retail chains with upwards of 175 locations and had crafted incredible skills in strategic marketing initiatives and building vendor relationships.

At Sun Tan City, Angela is responsible for all marketing and promotional functions and agency relationships. She is focused on building a department structure to handle the continued growth of Sun Tan City.

In her personal time, you can often find Angela giving back to the community by participating in a variety of local fundraising efforts. She sits as a committee chair for events benefiting the American Cancer Society, the Kosair Children’s Hospital Foundation, and Dress for Success Louisville.

Angela has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Indiana University.

Christy Cates, Director of Education and Training

Christy’s passion for tanning began in her college years, as she worked in the tanning industry while attending the University of Las Vegas, Nevada. Christy obtained her bachelor’s degree in urban affairs and continued to expand her skills and knowledge of tanning through the variety of training and operations roles she held.

Christy joined Sun Tan City in 2004 and is now responsible for establishing and implementing all training initiatives and programs. Through the development of innovative training materials and interactive training seminars, Christy and her team of field trainers have truly streamlined the training process. The result is consistent and acute knowledge across all staff members—an attribute that sets Sun Tan City apart from its competitors.

Tim Chaffin, Regional Director of Operations

Tim Chaffin joined Sun Tan City in July 2005 after spending three years with Penn Stations-East Coast Subs as an owner/operator, and another 12 years with Video Vault. During his time with Video Vault, Tim helped develop and expand the 13-store chain from its original two stores in Radcliff, Kentucky. Tim held multiple positions with Video Vault, the most recent being Operations Director for all locations and owner/operator of two locations.

Tim is currently responsible for operations of over 45 Sun Tan City salons in nine districts, ranging from Nashville, TN to the south and Lexington, KY to the north. Tim has helped Sun Tan City grow from 16 salons in 2004 to 96 salons currently.

Tim attended the University of Southern Indiana and resides in Gallatin, Tennessee with his wife and two children.

Mark Nelson, Regional Director of Operations

Mark has a passion for efficient growth and continuing cultural and economic success in growing markets, and has demonstrated this passion throughout his years of retail leadership. Mark joined Sun Tan City in September of 2005 after working for a decade in the video industry in many levels of management, including multi-unit management. Most recently, Mark held the position of Regional Manager, operating over 175 retail locations in fifteen states.

Mark is currently responsible for over 40 Sun Tan City salons in seven districts, operating in Central Kentucky; Louisville KY; and Indianapolis, IN.

Mark has a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Louisville and is currently working towards an MBA from the University of Campbellsville.  Mark and his wife Shereé have two children and live in Elizabethtown KY.
